My aim as a music teacher for St. Francis Xavier School is to provide all musical knowledge necessary for my students to achieve musical success academically and in everyday life. With my degree in music education and my concentration in voice, i am excited to share my skillset and passion for music through song and performance. I am a Mexican American musician who enjoys performing with my mariachi band along with my love for singing and collaborating alongside my fellow musicians. At St. Francis Xavier School. I want my students to experience musical growth through performance, collaboration, musicianship and liturgy. My goal is to guide them through their musical journey and growth so that they continue to learn, grow and develop a passion for music!
Music Education Philosophy
My passion for music has always been something I could escape to, music is universal, it can have different meanings to so many people. Growing up, I was always exposed to the wonders of music, music playing and singing. Just like everyone has their own type of therapy, music was mine, it was a way for me to get away from my chaotic life (shcool, home and life in general.) I’ve worked hard to get where I needed to be musically, it was a struggle, as I wasn't as privileged to attain a music education the way I’d like but I eventually was able to at a later time in my life. I would like to convey to my students that I understand everything has a process, I understand the struggle to get to attaining that goal whether it be with music or with life. Empathy and patience are also very important during a student’s learning process, there needs to be empathy in understanding how students learn and what they struggle with, having patience comes along with empathy. Patience is key to understanding their learning process, to help guide the students through that process and meeting their overall goal in the music classroom. Having students meet their goal academically is always a must but without empathy and patience (social and emotional), success in the classroom will not be achieved.
